Steve Gosling and I have run several trips together in Ireland, Scotland and the Faroe Islands. Steve is a minimalist black & white photographer, and I'm a more literal colour photographer. Together, we provide great counterpoints and show you multiple ways to see any given scene. This trip is about seeing the wonders of Scotland, but it's also about broadening your own photography and helping you to develop your own style - and have a lot of fun along the way!
We'll be operating from two bases - Glencoe in the highlands, and the Isle of Skye, which is what you might get if you distilled Scotland into its most dramatic essence. We'll be out sunset and sunrise, striving for the best light. As you can see from the images here, excellent images are possible even when the weather doesn't cooperate, so you'll be encouraged to see the potential in every scene. Steve and I will be out with you every day, shooting alongside you and helping you find your own eye.
This will be a photography workshop, not a tour. There will be no formal classroom sessions, just plenty of informal one-to-one instruction. We will also encourage you to observe how we see the landscape when composing our own photographs, and apply those lessons to your own style. We will offer an image critique and review session during the trip to further give you feedback on areas for improvement. With Steve and I coming from different points of view, you'll get at least two different opinions!
What can I say? Brilliant locations, food, accommodation, teaching and non-stop laughs.
Peter is an excellent teacher as well as a talented landscape photographer. He has a gift for explaining camera and photographic techniques to people of all skill levels.
We will collect participants from Glasgow Airport on 22nd of October and then travel to Glencoe, where our base will be the Ballachulish Hotel with its fantastic views across Loch Linnhe. This lovely hotel is ideally situated for exploring all that the area has to offer - Rannoch Moor, the majestic mountain Buchaille Etive Mor, Loch Leven & the Pap of Glencoe and the magnificently located Castle Stalker.
On the 25th of October we will travel to Skye.
Whilst on Skye we will spend our time photographing some of the well known locations e.g. Sligachan Bridge and Elgol with their views across to the Cuillin, the lighthouse at Neist Point, the Quirang (a fascinating landscape on the Trotternish Peninsula), the Old Man of Storr and the Fairy pools in Glen Brittle. We will also visit some lesser known locations that offer a variety of photographic potential and will give participants the chance to return home with something a little different.
We will return to Glencoe for one night (the 30th) before driving participants back to Glasgow airport on the 31st so they can catch their flights home.
