Peter is offering a workshop in this part of Ireland for only the second time. Connemara and South Mayo are some of the most beautiful parts of the country. With a character very different from the south-west of the country, experience dramatic mountains and wild coastline!
Join us for an unforgettable ten-day photography workshop through this part of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.
You'll be introduced to locations famous and unknown alike. Along the way, there'll be plenty of opportunities to improve your photography, with ad-hoc lectures and demonstrations in the field, and plenty of one-to-one attention. Not to mention an introduction to the local culture and plenty of good craic!
This workshop is about improving your photography as well as getting out and about in stunning locations. I'll be out shooting with you every day, helping you get photographs and introducing you to new ways of seeing.
Whether you're a total beginner with your first camera, or someone who's already expert and is looking for a fresh perspective, this workshop is for you. Over the ten days, there's plenty of opportunity for one-to-one attention for those who need extra help.
I can’t thank you enough, Peter, for making this workshop such a memorable experience. You gave us magical locations, great food and fun, and most of all your ability to provide useful and positive learning opportunities at all skill levels.
Peter’s photography speaks for itself; but above and beyond that, I much appreciated his unstinting, affable and understated way of helping people really enhance their photographic experience and results.
This is the basic itinerary, and may change depending on the weather conditions. If the weather is particularly poor, we will spend time relaxing and critiquing images as well as holding a few classroom-type sessions on shooting technique and post-processing.
Day one – three: We start the trip at Shannon, where you’ll be collected either from your hotel or the airport. We then make the drive up to our hotel for the next three nights in Clifden.
Using this as a base, we’ll explore the lowland parts of Connemara – from Oughterard on the shores of Lough Corrib to the Roundstone Bog, placid lakes, desolate moorland and beautiful shorelines will be our targets. We’ll make initial forays into the rugged Connemara mountains around Letterfrack as well.
Day three – five: We’ll move from Clifden to Leenane on the shores of Killary Harbour – Ireland’s only fjord. This is the heart of the Connemara mountains, and is filled with incredible scenery. From Lough Finn to Kylemore Lough and its famous abbey, and from the Twelve Bens to the Inagh Valley, we’ll have no shortage of dramatic compositions.
We’ll also venture north into South Mayo and the stunning Delphi Valley, Sheefrey Hills and the Partry Mountains. Around every corner, there’s another photograph. This is a landscape photographers playground.
Day six – nine: Day six marks our move to Westport on the shores of Clew Bay. From here we’ll explore coastline scenery filled with islands and dominated by the outline of Clare Island.
This area is also dominated by the Reek – Croagh Patrick. This is Ireland’s holiest mountain and the subject of a pilgrimage every year. Some of the pilgrims even climb it barefoot, which is a painful and bloody experience. Visible for miles in every direction it has always had great significance in the region. For us, it’ll be the subject of several compositions along the shores of Clew Bay as it stands in dramatic isolation.
We may also head up to the north of Clew Bay and explore Achill Island, a wild and rugged island linked to the mainland by a bridge.
Day ten: This is a travel day. After an optional dawn shoot, we’ll pack up and head south to Shannon for afternoon flights home. We plan to arrive in Shannon around noon, so when booking your flight please make sure it doesn’t leave earlier than 2.30 or 3pm.
